Party time!

Hi Internet!

So it's been a while since my complains-a-lot blog, the birthday party went well (allthough due to the postponing and summerclosing in the pre-school none of the kids from Ragnar's class showed up) parts of our families came (a lot of out of towners) and the cake happened, I didn't find any Batman or Superman small toy things to put on top of the cake and my days of ambitious icing creations are over (seriously, I will not do that to my kid when he's this old - the humiliation of last years pirate clown was too much) but I did find this handy thing to put on top of the birthday cake - a batman balloon! yes that was the Birthday Cake and a helium filled balloon on top, and what do Birthday cakes have incomon most of the time? yes you guessed it CANDLES - and candles plus helium, not a great idea - fortunetly I realised this about four seconds before I lighted the candle and managed to NOT blow up the place LOL - *phew* - Ragnar got a lot of cool things like the Star Wars "build your own" light saber (to quote Gummi on the subject "This is the best present *I* have gotten for years") and a Star Wars space ship and some kind of a ball/frisby thing that we haven't tried out yet... along with a lot of much needed clothing and all kinds of things :)

Well, on to the closer happenings, Gummi and I went out on Friday night, see in Iceland the first Monday of August is the "off day of shop owners and clerks" - which means it's one of the biggest traveling and drinking and celebrations weekends in Iceland. Naturally this means that none of the actual shop owners and clerks get the weekend off LOL - although most of the big stores are closed on the Monday. Anyhoo... On Friday we went out, we bought tickets to see my favorite Icelandic band Nýdönsk and got my aunt to sit with the kids (since the club didn't open until midnight and the band wasn't supposed to come on until one o'clock this wasn't a happy task for her LOL - the club was supposed to close at 5 am) Well we went to a friends(this is actually a more complex situation due to the fact that this guy is not only Gummi's childhood friend and a close one at that but he's also my ex...yes I have a rather weird life...) house to start drinking (well me and our friend started drinking, Gummi quit drinking some three years ago) well then the friend's brother and his girlfriend got home and Gummi and the 17 year old girl got to chatting, they are both Kiss fanatics and all about black metal and deathmetal and all kinds of everything so they keep at it for a while and since I was extremely bored with the Kiss fanatics I went to chat with P (the friend/ex) which is all well and good and we kept drinking and the Kiss fanatics kept talking Kiss and then some other people showed up and Gummi went to pick someone up and took quite some time so we didn't get to the concert until 3am but since the band hadn't gotten on until 2am we had only missed an hour... then we got a phonecall after about an hour that the girl Gummi had picked (up some friend of a friend of P's we didn't know) had forgotten her purse in our car so we decided it was best to go and check but the purse wasn't in the car and we somehow got talked into driving the girl home to look for the purse and then back to the party so we didn't get back to the concert since our babysitter had specified that she didn't want to stay long past 5am ... *sigh*

Well we did have a good time though and we got to hang out with friends and that's all well and good, although I did only get to hear two of my faves by Nýdönsk...

well talk to you later Internet - hope you like my narration of fun events instead of complaining ;)

By the way I don't know if I ever told you how much I LOVE your daughters name. All this name searching has made me consider names in a new light. But really, it is totally unique and very beautiful. Don't worry, I won't steal it, but I just wanted to say I love your choice.:)

Well the pirate clown was a bad choice in decorations on cake - really bad! http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s282/zion_84/044.jpg

As for name choices, I posted a LONG post on your blog ;)

Awww...your pirate cake wasn't that bad at all!:) It did make me smile but I thought it was quite cute! I'm sure it was tasty!! I'm afraid I'm not a baker...it's one of the things I'm wondering about for the future...maybe i'll just have to buy a lot of cakes and claim I baked them?:)
And thank you for the answer you left on my blog!!

Sorry this is totally off topic but have you ever heard of or read anything by Yrsa Sigurdardottir? I was just browsing on Amazon and since I love Arnuldur Indridisson , I was recommended this other Icelandic mystery writer...I love Iceland, I love mysteries...do you know if she's any good?
Thanks.:)

I don't think I've read anything by her... usually I don't read a lot of mainstream books...well except Harry Potter and Twilight and such LOL - but I'm not a big fan of mysteries in general, so I tend to skip those all togeather but I do think she has gotten quite good reviews so I think you should probablyl give her a go ;)
